2023/Q1 Goals: SDR, IC-706 and HF

• Deploy SDRs on the Zolder [Attick] [private].
  • Goal: To deploy one or more Software-Defined Radios with antenna so I can listen to a wide range of frequencies.

• Remote Use of SDRs
  • Goal: To remotely control and listen to my SDRs.

• Sub-28MHz SDR Operation
  • Goal: To be able to use the lower HF (below 28 MHz) on at least one SDR.

  • Goal: To deploy a Linux machine, ham-ic706.jdj, dedicated to interfacing the IC-706.

• Computer Control for the IC-706 on ham-ic706.jdj and ham-lab.jdj
  • The overall goal is to allow full remote operation of the IC-706 from a locally connected machine. We set this up on ham-lab.jdj first, since that machine has keyboard, mouse, screen and sound. We then mimic the setup on ham-ic706.jdj in preparation of RDP operation from any machine (see below).
  • Audio/PTT
    • Goal: To transfer Audio (Rx/Tx) and PTT between a computer (ham-ic706.jdj and/or ham-lab.jdj) and the IC-706.

  • Rig Control
    • Goal: To control the settings of the IC-706 from a USB-connected computer (ham-ic706.jdj and/or ham-lab.jdj).

• Remote Operation for the IC-706 through RDP or similar
  • Goal: To transfer Audio (Rx/Tx) and PTT as well settings between any computer on gvl14lan and the IC-706 through a sound-supported login session on ham-ic706.jdj [and/or ham-lab.jdj].

• Automated Remote Operation for the IC-706 from ham-ic706.jdj
  • Goal: To transfer Audio (Rx/Tx) and PTT as well settings between any computer [client] on gvl14lan and the IC-706 through auto-discovery and without the need of a login session. Machine ham-ic706.jdj is the (headless) intermediate; operation must be controlled through systemd. All audio decoding is performed on the client. (Ideally, ) Any client with appropriate software installed should be able to connect to ham-ic706.jdj and control the IC-706 without intervention on ham-ic706.jdj or the IC-706.
