Introduction
Today, as a follow-up on recent experiments with the Nooelec NESDR SMArt v4 SDR, I tried to active the RTL-SDR Blog V3 on ham-sdr01.jdj.
To that purpose, I got myself two additional telescopic antennas and a quality (I hope) USB extension cable, since the RTL-SDR Blog V3 does not fit in my available USB slots on ham-sdr01.jdj.
Pictures of the setup are here (the first picture is from the old setup with the Nooelec NESDR SMArt v4 SDR).
Result
- Well, in short, everything worked. Not surprisingly, since the chips in the RTL-SDR Blog V3 are identical to those in the Nooelec NESDR SMArt v4 SDR.
- Although it’s way to early to make this statement, I somehow think that the Rx performance (pi2nos; 430.125 MHz) is just a bit better than with the Nooelec NESDR SMArt v4 SDR.
- I tried to switch to HF reception by activating Direct Sampling on the RTL-SDR Blog V3, through supplying various device strings in GQRX. This, however, failed. Interestingly enough, CubicSDR directly supports this option in its device configuration dialog.
