This blog is concerned with my energy usage, monitoring and reduction attempts. It starts [20221002].
This blog is dedicated to the Ukrainian heroes fighting the unjustifiable invasion of Ukrainian territory by Russian military forces on 24th of February 2022.

This blog is in reverse chronological order.
[20230106] – Stand Watermeter
Vandaag [~20:15] de stand van de watermeter opgenomen: 00511.620. Deze stand heb ik vervolgens dorrgegeven aan Evides; 10% minder verbruik; goed bezig:

[20221212] – Bovenverdieping – Afsluiten Radiatoren
Volledige set [SAMSUNG G7]: http://www.jdj/pictures/05%20GvL14/20221212%20-%20GvL14%20-%20Bovenverdieping_Radiatoren_SAMSUNG_SM-G930F/
Het afsluiten van de radiatoren op de Bovenverdieping heeft overduidelijk een gunstig effect op het gasverbruik: Het daalt van ca 8.4 m^3 naar ca 5.2 m^3.

[20221022/20221023] Energy Usage Profile of my Dryer
After profiling the energy usage of my Washing Machine, I repeated the procedure for my Dryer with InfluxDBv2.

Below is the corresponding Grafana output, obtained at [20221023 – 02:00 CEST]. Total energy usage is an impressive 4.129 kWh.

[20221022/20221023] Energy Usage Profile of my Washing Machine
Today [20221022], I took an initial profile of the energy usage of my Washing Machine using InfluxDBv2. It looks like heating the water dominates over all other power consumption (pump(s), motor, …).
I’ll have to wait until tomorrow for the (aggregate) Grafana results.

So here’s the Grafana graph (total energy usage is 1.039 kWh):

[20221014] Domotics Wish List
- Temperature Monitoring, preferably in each Room as well as outside.
- Humidity Monitoring, mostly on the First [Ground] Floor [Kitchen] and Second Floor [Bath Room].
- Electricity Monitoring of Washing Machine and Dryer. [done 20221022]
- Electricity and State Monitoring of the Mechanical Ventilation.
- Being able to fully close the Radiator Valves anywhere (at least manually).
- Being able to distinguish Gas Usage between Shower, Hot Water, Central Heating and Cooking.
- Being able to monitor/store the OpenTherm data transfer between Thermostat and Central Heating Unit.
[20221014] Electricity Update
Just a small update on my electricity usage, directly from P1 measurements: Below is a 90-day overview [from Grafana]:

It looks like I’m doing well. From 12-15 kWh/day in August and the first half of September to less than 10 kWh/day over the past three weeks. The Green bars cover night/weekend; the Orange bars cover the rest.
Here’s another view from Domoticz over the past month:

My main measures, for the moment:
- To deploy an Underfloor Heating-Pump Switch.
- To not continuously have switched on my Living-Room Entertainment (rush.jdj + avr.jdj + BENQ Monitor).
- To not continuously switch on my Home Working ICT.
- To switch off on-demand ICT Servers I do not use.
- To fully switch off Guitar/Music Equipment when not in use.
- To fully switch off HAM/Lab Equipment when not in use.
- To no longer use my Garden Lighting continuously.
- To use my Dish Washer in ‘Eco Mode’, and to only use it when there’s enough dirty tableware.
- To be very selective on when to activate my Extractor Fan.
In future blogs, I will elaborate on some of these individual measures.
Glory to Ukraine!
[20221005] Reducing Electricity Usage for HAM/Lab
Today I minimized electricity usage for HAM/Lab when not in use @Zolder. The full phote set is here.
[20221003] Playing with Central-Heating Settings
Today I played around with central-heating settings. The full photo set is here.
[20221002] Start of Blog
Today, I start my Energy Blog (this page), at the point where I more or less completed power-monitoring and gas monitoring in my House.
Currently, I do not have any means of Energy Production [no Solar Panels, etc.]
I’m at roughly 800-1200 m3/y Gas Consumption and 3000-5000 kWh/y Electricity Consumption over the past (say) 10 years.
It’s too much, in particular the Electricity Consumption, so I will reduce it for our Ukrainian heroes.
